Dearest Reader,
First off, thanks for all the love about my announcement of Live Forever. I can’t wait for you to hear the whole album and get your hands on the Double LP. Last week it was also my birthday, and I like to celebrate still being alive, so me and a gang of friends had a giant Dim Sum dinner and many hours of karaoke. My voice is finally back after belting Born to Run a little too hard..
For all my paying subscribers I have your March playlists ready below, and my belated cover song for Feb. You’ll be getting another one this month to make up for the lag. I covered “Rip Torn” by MJ Lenderman, one of my favorites off his great record Manning Fireworks.
Before I leave you, I want to mention the horrifying news coming out of Kansas. The state invalidated the licenses for all Trans people with changed gender markings over night and without warning.
The ACLU of Kansas explains SB 244 as “It prohibits transgender people from updating their driver’s licenses or state ID cards to reflect their gender, and also invalidates transgender people’s existing driver’s licenses, state IDs, and birth certificates if those documents were issued in Kansas and reflect a gender different from a person’s sex at birth.”
The new law continues with extreme bathroom restrictions; “Senate Bill 244 requires transgender people to use the restrooms and other sex-separated facilities in government buildings associated with their sex assigned at birth, while creating new civil and criminal penalties to enforce those restrictions.”
These laws are not only cruel and unnecessary, they create confusion and fear for Trans people who are simply trying to live their lives. How now is a Trans person supposed to get to the DMV or Government office to even follow this heinous law and again change their current documents? It would be illegal for them to DRIVE THERE.
