Oh, Alynda - I honor the tears that flowed. We were so disappointed for you, but CHEERED for your triumphant performance amidst many oddly lackluster ones (save for Waxahatchee!) - it was a weird show... Your artful telling of your return to Nashville sure makes it sound like you are winning in all the real (real) ways. The truth and beauty of TPISA makes it eternal, and it will continue to evolve and grow for you and all of us who have found solace and hope in it. And while I don't know you and I don't know your Dad, I think we all have an intuitive sense of his deep, enduring pride.

TPISA is my album of the year, in any case. Commiserations and congratulations to you and your support network.

I don’t suppose I’m your usual fan, I’m 82 years old, but I’ve loved watching you since seeing a video on YouTube, you were standing outside an old caravan, that’s been a few years ago. Keep singing and being exciting. X

TPISA is such a great album. It does continue to evoke new meaning for me. It’s my favorite this year, along with Waxahatchie’s. I can’t get enough of either. Somehow I believe your father knows how meaningful it is. Thanks for letting us tag along for a day in the life of Nashville. You are so thoughtful and talented. Keep on Rockin’.

Ah, that band based in Alabama called The Shakes. It was through Alabama Shakes that I discovered HFTRR, when Brittany Howard guested on your video of ‘I know it’s wrong …’. That song blew my socks off, and I’ve been an avid fan ever since, grabbing everything you’ve released and getting to see you play live four times now, on your visits to the UK. I was touring the Southern States last year and got to see the Ryman on a trip to Nashville. I felt Broadway has a bit of a redneck vibe, I much preferred NOLA and the music scene there. So much great music has emanated from the Deep South, and I love the way you continue to draw inspiration from it.

I’ve loved your creative, evocative, and honest lyrics. It flows in these posts too. “Teary eyed,” but not alone. Thanks for allowing us into the vulnerability, Alynda. I hope you find the support empowering.

In 50 years, TPISA will transport a generation of music listeners back in time. In my old age it is the Huckleberry Finn of my youth. It takes me on a journey.

You totally deserve to win album of the year, but sometimes — as you’ve touched on — losing is the ultimate reward. Idk, friend, I just think you’re onto something pivotal, poignant and true, and I just hope that my own trajectory becomes as complete as yours does. I am just so thrilled to be able to witness your beautiful music and words. They mean a lot to me.
